Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - the ultimate Motown soul singers are touching down in Newcastle’s much loved Cluny on December 12th and you are definitely not going to want to miss this one. With countless hits such as ‘Dancing in the Street’, ‘Nowhere to Run’ and ’Jimmy Mack’; without a doubt it’s going to be a night of non-stop rhythm and blues boogying. If you’re a fan of The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and The Temptations, there’s definitely a yearning space in your Spotify library for Martha Reeves & The Vandellas.
I won’t lie, I’m still slightly confused that such an iconic band is coming to the tiny venue but I for one am ready to welcome the funk to the Ouseburn with open arms. Taking the soul scene by storm back in the day, it seems as though the American trio have got some unfinished business with the music industry. They’re touring across the UK in a selection of privileged, intimate venues; and luckily for us, the Cluny makes the cut. In March next year, Reeves is set to be presented with the Lifetime Achievement in Soulful Music and so it really will be a true honour to see the girl group live - so get yourselves down to the Cluny a week on Monday!
