Being a student and living alone for the first time inevitably means a lot of desperation when finding meal ideas that are quick, easy to make, and will satisfy you. Over the past few years, I've come to find many recipes that save my week; this is one of them!
This recipe takes around 30 minutes to make. Let's run through the steps:
- Make rice! You want to put double the water as the amount of rice you use. Place the rice in boiling water and change the heat down to half or less, so it boils but doesn't stick. Another trick to making this so it doesn't stick is to add some oil to the water beforehand.
- Cut and marinate the salmon. You are going to take the salmon (that has previously been in the freezer and is now defrosted so that it's safe to eat raw) and you are going to cut it into tiny squares. When this is done, you are going to put it in a container, add soy sauce, and let it marinate as you make everything else. If you don't like salmon you can also do it with tuna, both of which you can also cook after marinating if you don't like having raw food, with cooked chicken or with your favourite protein!
- Next step is to cut the different ingredients, you can add whatever you like most, but I often use avocado and mango.
- When the rice is done and all the ingredients have been cut, let the rice cool down. A way to do this quicker is to put it under cold water for a bit.
- When you have the rice ready, place it in your bowl and add your previously cut ingredients. You can also add cream cheese, or if you want a healthier version of this, you can add cottage cheese! You can also add fried onions!
- Lastly, add your favorite sauce. I add soy sauce and honey and mustard.
Once you've followed these steps, your Poke bowl is ready to enjoy!
