This summer Australian Rachael 'Raygun' Gunn took the 2024 Paris Olympics by storm when she competed in its breakdancing category.

Raygun was first noticed when she competed in the women's breaking category of the newly introduced breakdancing sport which was exclusive to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Here she competed in many dance battles where she was seen to have a more alternative style of breaking that made many onlookers question how she qualified to make it to the Olympics. Regardless of this, she was still defended heavily by Olympic officials.

With no points won at all in the breaking category, Raygun still went on to inspire many when witnessing how she went on stage happy and unphased by the publics opinion of her, despite her technique being heavily criticised. However, upon returning to Australia after the Olympics, the scrutiny of others continued and led her to feel as though "it's not going to be the same experience" if she continued breaking competitively in Australia.

She announced in an interview that she wanted to keep competing, but after all of the uproar and debates caused by her Olympic debut, she could not see herself competing anymore.

This interview went all over social media and other news platforms, stating that she was retiring from breakdancing.

To put - what she called fake news - to rest, she had an interview on Australian TV chat show 'The Project' where she revealed that she will continue to break dance, just not in a competitive environment. She expressed that she "will never stop dancing" and that to her it is a "lifestyle". Describing her relationship with the Australian public as "love-hate", she addressed the fact that she knows she will not be liked by everyone, but will continue to do what she loves.

In the future we can expect to see Raygun active and breakdancing within the community when attending community jams and still going to her dance classes. Raygun thanked the support she received from people with this fake announcement, but she does not want people to believe that she has given up breakdancing completely.
