What is Poem Box?

Poem Box is the Arts section's creative writing submission, open for sign-ups at Student Media Afternoons all term long.

We encourage any of our writers to submit a piece of short fictional prose or poetry, which will then be published at The Courier Online. These works are usually between 50 and 250 words, but there is absolutely no limit. Please do not put a cap on your creative juices on our account!

So ... What’s Changing This Year?

We've got new themes! Each week our Editors will put forward a topical prompt to inspire you through the writer’s block. However, you’re under no obligation to limit yourself to this, and we are excited for submissions on a whole range of topics.

We also have new incentives! At the end of each term, we will choose our favourite author of the season to award a print edition feature to use as they please. Whether this is an interview breaking down your work Genius style, plugging your Substack, or just publishing your work in print. You win big!

I look forward to reading your guys’ work this year and having an insight into shades of Newcastle that only you can pen. Happy submitting!
