Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
It wouldn’t be a normal year without another Call of Duty game, would it? Treyarch are dropping the 21st installment in this absolutely iconic series with the first Black Ops game since 2020. Preview footage has faced many of the usual “same game different name” criticisms that COD usually sees, but the team will be looking to prove these wrong with an improved movement system, a brand new story mode and a healthy variety of multiplayer maps.

Sonic X Shadow Generations
In this rerelease of one of the highest-acclaimed Sonic games ever, Sega is giving us a remaster of the original Sonic Generations paired alongside an exclusive story mode centred around Shadow The Hedgehog. There’s so much hype surrounding December right now, where the two hedgehogs will finally clash on the big screen in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 – something Sega clearly wants to capitalise on. Shadow Generations will feature Sonic's fiercest foe exploring levels and fighting bosses from his past, with a revamped arsenal of abilities for players to take advantage of.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure
In June of this year, Deck Nine announced the fourth entry in the Life Is Strange series, where Max Caulfield – the protagonist from the first game – will return as a resident of Caledon University. Her time-travelling powers have completely evolved since the first game though, now allowing her to transfer her consciousness to parallel timelines. Some fans are excited by the return of the series’ most popular character, while others feel that her story was wrapped up perfectly back in 2015 and doesn’t need to be returned to.

Super Mario Party Jamboree
Nothing says ‘friendship’ like absolutely losing your mind at your loved ones over this cute series of Mario games. The series has been on a six-year hiatus since it returned to the franchise’s original format in 2018’s reboot of sorts, Super Mario Party. Jamboree seems to be following in its footsteps, while boasting a plethora of new maps, modes, and characters spanning all across the wonderful world of Mario. The game looks to be an absolute blast so far, channelling all the crazy and chaotic energy that made fans first fall in love with the series.

Silent Hill 2
Perhaps the biggest release of this year’s spooky season, Konami and Bloober Team return with a remake of this 2001 classic that changed the horror game genre forever. James Sunderland (now voiced by Luke Roberts) will return in a remake that gamers have every reason to be excited about, from the upgraded graphics and animation to improved combat and exploration. The series hasn’t had a major installment since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour, but fans will be hoping the success of this remake could potentially kickstart a revival of this beloved franchise.
