Remember Monday announced as the UK Eurovision act this year

The country girl group will hope the UK can bounce back from Olly Alexander's disappointing result last year.

Remember Monday is a girl group which formed when they met each other in college when they were just 16. Now, after making it to the quarter finals of The Voice in 2019, changing their band name and gaining a pretty respectable fanbase, they are set to take the 2025 Eurovision stage and hopefully blow us all away with some of their English country music.

They'll perform their new song 'What the Hell Just Happened?' in Basel in May, which follows their EP Crazy Anyway which came out last October. Personally I think they're a fun band, have a good stage presence and could give us a pretty admirable performance if everything goes the way we hope.

Anyone who's a seasoned Eurovision fan knows the UK rarely performs well when the votes are coming through, particularly when it comes to the public vote. Our last high scoring performance was Sam Ryder in 2022 with his song 'Space Man', but last year Olly Alexander received zero public votes which I fear is much closer to our usual score. A harsh turn of events for Olly, but I feel with Eurovision you have to remember how political the votes end up being.

When we consider this I think there's a good chance, what with the political disaster the UK is being at the minute, that another zero could be soaring our way. We can only hope for more votes this time.

While Switzerland polls at the top despite not having announced their act at the time of writing, Finland and France take second and third place with artists Erika Vikman and Louane singing for their countries. Unfortunately the UK is currently polling at 16th on the table which doesn't look good for our girls.

What the UK really needs if you ask me is a ridiculous act - something that screams EUROVISION and not 'up and coming pop star'. I have nothing against the acts we've put forward in recent years but give me a Geordie lad belting some nonsense about a Greggs and offering sausage rolls to a confused Swiss audience any day, I think the crowds would literally eat that up.

Remember Monday became country musicians because they wanted to be able to tell a story with their music, and we can only hope they'll be telling a good enough story when they take the Eurovision stage to win some of the public vote and outshine all of our expectations.
