Ouseburn has been named ‘one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world’ by travel guides, and normally this is reflected in the prices of its venues. However, The Tanners Arms stays humble with almost all of their hearty meals being under the £10 mark, as well as 2 for £10 cocktails (2 for £7.50 on weekends).
What particularly impressed me about this pub is the extensive vegan and vegetarian menus. Not only do they provide unique plant-based options, but they also offer most of their classic meat dishes in vegetarian / vegan form, sacrificing absolutely none of the quality.
Between us, we tried the original and vegan version of their ‘Schmoove Moove’ burger and their signature salt and pepper chicken fries (again, both a meat and veggie option!). Both dishes were incredible, full of flavour and immaculately presented - quite a challenge considering the sheer amount of ingredients in the burger. A word of warning, the portion sizes are huge, so I wouldn’t make the trip here unless you’re hungry.
Their huge range of other dishes include pub classics such as fish and chips or a Sunday roast, as well as hot dogs and nachos which are, needless to say, loaded with toppings. Their drinks menu is also extensive, whether you’re after a boujee cocktail or a perfect pint.
All in all, The Tanners Arms is a must-visit pub for anyone who wants a filling and flavourful meal just outside the city, especially for students who want to venture into Ouseburn without breaking the bank!
