The former This Morning presenter was TV royalty before his extra-marital affairs with a younger showrunner was brought to the surface, to which Schofield argues the story would be much different if it were a heterosexual relationship.
Nonetheless, the show has unveiled more controversial moments for the former TV star, as Schofield is seen to swipe some digs at his former co-star and TV partner Holly Willoughby; a former catchphrase of Holly Willoughby ‘Are you ok?’ which was often used on This Morning was seen to be thrown around at Schofield’s last meal with his family in a sarcastic manner. But does this confirm what we already know about the shamed presenter?
Many viewers have stated that the show has only made things worse and has painted Schofield out to be selfish, whining, and petulant, with only his regrets lying with the fall of his career rather than the people he has hurt. The shame only continues for Schofield when he appears to blame his dismissal from ITV on his brother's arrest for sexual assault once again reminding viewers of the lack of responsibility being taken.
I think the public can all agree this bitter and resentful image isn’t what Schofield wanted to reveal with his TV comeback, it is quite clear from the self-pity displayed on the show that the former This Morning host wanted to evoke pity and empathy from viewers, which one can argue has been missed quite heavily, however, was the attempt to come back to TV shameful enough?
Would a more subtle return have restored his reputation? We unfortunately don’t know the answer to that one but what we do know is that the attempt to salvage what is left of his career (virtually nothing) has not been as smooth sailing as hoped for and is safe to say we probably won’t be seeing Phillip Schofield back on the sofa in the mornings any time soon…
