Each PlayStation has released six to seven years apart; the PlayStation 4 released five years ago which means that it is very likely we’re going to be seeing the fifth console in a couple of years.

Sony president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has commented on the need for the PlayStation 4’s successor, telling the Financial Times that “it’s necessary to have a [sic] next-generation hardware.”

However, Yoshida declined to say whether the new console would be called the PlayStation 5 or not. It is possible they will take the brand in a new direction, although it’s very unlikely.

Modern Warfare 4 is possibly one of the titles that will be released on Sony’s new platform.

Sony have also placed advertisements looking for a Senior Product Manager and a Senior Software Engineer. These ads use the term “next generation” indicating that they are working on the next console, and this sort of hiring usually precedes a release by twelve to fifteen months.

This means that the next generation of PlayStation could arrive in 2019 or 2020 which would be in line with their current track-record of six to seven years.

There are also rumours surrounding Infinity Ward, the company mostly known for their work on the Call of Duty series. Craig Fairbrass, the voice behind Walcroft, Ghost and Gaz, updated his Twitter bio saying that he had worked on “Call of Duty modern warfare 1/2/3/4.”

This is important because, on LinkedIn, Infinity Ward has a job listing where they are looking for a temporary Associate Game Designer who will be working on “an exciting, unannounced next gen title.” This could very well be the rumoured Modern Warfare 4 and Infinity Ward’s the next in line to release a Call of Duty game, coming in 2019.

The next generation of PlayStation could arrive in 2019 or 2020.

The next generation of consoles could come out next year and Modern Warfare 4 is possibly one of the titles that will be released on Sony’s new platform. It’s entirely speculative but, based on the job advertisements and Fairbrass’ social media description, it’s also entirely possible.

However, it should be noted that the job listing does not say that the game they are working on is Call of Duty, so the release could be as far back as 2022, rather than next year.

In summary, Sony appear to be dropping hints gradually, which means we could get solid news about the next PlayStation very soon.
