The now former boss was informed on Monday morning that he was no longer wanted by The Red Devils, just a day after their last minute 2-1 Premier League defeat against West Ham.
Manchester United currently reside at 14th in the table after this loss, which further prolongs the record-breaking worst ever Premier League start for Manchester United.
The club released a short statement on their website which read “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.”
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.”
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach supported by the current coaching team whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
During his time at the Manchester outfit, Ten Hag spent north of £600 million which resulted in a Carabao Cup and FA Cup, as well as 3rd and 8th place finishes in the league.
The Dutch coach certainly had some memorable wins such as the 2-1 defeat of Manchester City in the FA Cup final, as well as the comeback victory against Barcelona in the Europa League.
However, he also had some devastating losses during his time as well which includes the historic 7-0 loss against Liverpool and 4-0 demolition job away at Crystal Palace.
The temporary appointment of United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy was predicted by many as the most likely approach to be taken by INEOS if Ten Hag warranted the sack.
But now, the burning question that football fans around the world will have is around who Manchester United will appoint as their new manager.
The front runners to take the job currently appear to be: Xavi, Simone Inzaghi, Thomas Frank and former United coach Kieran Mckenna.
