October seems to have flashed before our eyes; Halloween is only next week, bonfire night is around the corner and soon we will be in the run up to Christmas! Newcastle is a great place to be for all these winter festivities, but the weather is getting colder by the day and a coat is simply an essential. I have rounded up my favourite styles of coats for this season to keep us warm in the toon.

Long-line coats

Remember the days where your mum would try and convince you to get a long coat to keep you warm but you refused as they weren't stylish? Well, not anymore as these coats are everywhere on Instagram. In particular, long line coats in neutral colours such as beige or brown are a perfect addition to throw over your outfit. Long line coats can often look chic and expensive,  when actually they're really affordable. My personal favourite long line coats are on Missguided, with most coming in around £65. When you add student discount to this, it is actually an incredibly good price for an item you will probably be wearing on a daily basis.

Aviator jackets

"Fur lined aviator jackets are the way to go for the cold winter months ahead"

People often complain that coats ruin an outfit. This definitely won't be the case with a black aviator jacket as these make your outfit look effortlessly put together. Fur lined aviator jackets are the way to go for the cold winter months ahead, the contrasting faux fur and faux leather textures compliment each other perfectly. These jackets are especially versatile as they can be worn for a day of lectures or can be paired with evening, date night look. Zara always nails coats in general, and there's a gorgeous black oversized aviator on their website.

Teddy Coats

A more casual alternative to the faux fur coats, teddy coats are a must have for your winter campus look. Long lined teddy coats are everywhere this year, but the shorter teddy coats are a much more laid back, relaxed style. Teddy coats are a great way to experiment with colour as you can get coats in a range of neutral as well as pastel colours. ASOS have a wide range of affordable teddy coats all suitable for a student budget.

Puffer Jackets

Let's face it, will puffer jackets ever go out of style? This year, there is a range of puffers on the market, and I'm loving the puffers in fun colours and textures. Topshop are selling a wonderful faux leather puffer jacket, which would be a simple way to change it up from your regular black puffer. Pretty Little Thing also have a good selection of puffers in a whole host of  different colours.

As a coats are such an essential piece, it's important to invest in one which you won't get bored of wearing. Luckily for us, coats seem to become more innovative year on year, so keeping warm has never been more stylish.
