I visited the incredible market organised by The Find and Flaura Rose, which was contributed to by over forty local, all-female business owners. Purple, green and white streamers hung from the walls, and every surface was crammed with any ware your heart could care for. The stalls covered two floors and sold everything from posters to upcycled clothing, from crochet to jewellery.
You could even grab yourself a cheeky cocktail to sip on the way round, or keep you company while you made the heart-breaking decision between buying an M&M cookie or a crème egg brownie. You could have brought the whole friend group along to the charm stall, to create a memorable piece for all your personalised friendship bracelet needs.
Many stalls sold a variety of colourful art prints, namely of iconic city centre destinations like Pink Lane Bakery, Tyneside Cinema and Grey’s Monument- perfect for that little bit of Newcastle pride. Personally, I couldn’t help but buy a handmade ceramic dish from Otho Pottery, intricately painted with the image of a ship.
It was such a welcoming and inclusive event, celebrating the community and appreciation for women’s achievements that International Women's Day commends.
It was amazing to see so many talented female artists and creators in one building. Flaura Rose plans to hold another market next March, as well as one this Christmas, so if you missed this event be sure to get yourself along to the next one!
