In July last year, I went completely sober, and over the past 9 months I've been exploring new alcohol alternatives for when I go out or socialise. It can sometimes be hard navigating a night out without alcohol to ease you, however these are some of the options I've enjoyed the most when experimenting with what I enjoy drinking most.

Number one - Shloer: Here me out. I know Shloer for most people will remind you of Christmas as a kid, pretending you were drinking wine. My issue with a lot of alcohol free wines is they still have that bitter alcoholic taste, and for me I'd rather drink something I like the flavour of, especially if I'm not drinking it for the effects. The white grape Shloer is a particular favourite of mine and is something I've brought to wine nights with friends. It's definitely a rogue one but I would recommend giving it a go!

Number two - J2O Mocktail Cans: One thing about drinking I do miss are the cute cocktail tins at picnics and in the sun. However, recently I found that J2O do their own mocktail cans! I've always hated having to settle for a normal J2O when bars don't have an alternative but these are perfect! They taste ever so slightly alcoholic but in a really pleasant way. I love these so much and at 3 for 3 pound at your local supermarket who can complain!

Number three - 0% ciders: For those who know me I am a big strawberry and lime cider hater however I've really loved the Koppaberg alcohol-free mixed fruit cider and the Thatchers 0% cider. These are both available at Luthers and definitely satisfy that summer pint feeling.

Number four - Energy drinks: Though not a replica for alcohol, I couldn't miss out on talking about Redbull and Monsters. Sometimes when you aren't drinking you do get those dips and you're more aware of your tiredness. Every now and again a Redbull does help to raise those energy levels again and mean I can stay out a little bit longer. However, it's important to make sure these are drunk in moderation.

Number five - Functional drinks: These types of drinks are just hitting the market but include adaptogens and nootropics which help boost your mood naturally using ingredients such as specific mushrooms and plants. This includes drinks like Trip which contain CBD oil to help relax you, and the G Spot drinks by Gillian Anderson which contain a range of mood-lifting drinks based on what you want, whether that's the Soothe drink or the Lift drink. These are something I'd definitely recommend if you are looking for something a little bit different, and are available st Sainsbury's now.

In summary, make sure to drink responsibly and whether it's a one-off or something for the long run, these are some perfect options to get you started on surviving your next sober night out.
