UK band Sports Team have been robbed at gunpoint "10 minutes" into their West Coast USA 2024 tour. The six-piece outfit are due to play six dates across California, Nevada, and Arizona, with the robbery taking place on the morning of their opening gig.

The attack occurred at 8.45am in the city of Vallejo, in the Bay Area of California, as the band stopped at a Starbucks for breakfast. The band were alerted of the looting by a passerby who asked, "Does anyone have a white Sprinter van? Because you’re being robbed right now".

A statement from the band detailed the events that took place. Passports, stage equipment, and "a lot of personal gear" were all listed as stolen; however, instruments were safe as "the back of the van is fortified", the band explained.

Sports Team also released a post on social media which included a video of how events unfolded in front of them.

Drummer Alex Greenwood commented, "I really thought I was about to watch someone get shot. In the video, you can hear me screaming at her [tour manager] to get down".

Alex Rice, the band’s frontman, added, "The thing that struck me was the resignation. The people around us weren’t very panicked at all. It seemed like an everyday occurrence".

Police were called, however, refused to show and instead suggested that they "submit an online report".

The band announced they wouldn’t let this put them off their tour. Their opening gig went ahead and took place the same day at the Trading Post in Sacramento, the band will even return to the Bay Area later in the tour.

Rice humorously rounded off his statement by saying, "They can take our Nintendo Switches but they can never take our ability to play rock songs about motorways".

Sports Team’s third studio album, 'Boys These Days', is set to be released on 28 February 2025.
