While the Chiefs retained their Superbowl title over the San Fransico 49ers, many viewers’ attention was far from the sport being played, instead focused on the many film trailers that were released during the ad breaks.

For many, the highlight of the night was the long-awaited release of the trailer for the third instalment in the Deadpool franchise, now officially revealed as being named Deadpool and Wolverine which brings back fan-favourite Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Now Ryan Reynolds’ comical vigilante is owned by Disney, fans were worried that his trademark R-rated comedy would have been removed in favour of marketing the film for a younger audience, but judging by the humour shown in the trailer, fans should not be worried!

Another trailer that had fans excited was for the first of two film adaptions of the Wicked stage play, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, and revolves around Elphaba Thropp and her journey that leads to her assuming the title of the Wicked Witch of the West. Many fans seemed to be disappointed with the lacklustre visuals of the film, but further trailers may dispel these fears.

John Krasinski was involved in two trailers that were revealed; starring in IF with Ryan Reynolds, a family comedy centring around a young girl who can see people’s imaginary friends. He also was involved in creating and producing A Quiet Place: Day One, a prequel to his successful 2018 horror film, which stars Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn.

Another apocalyptic world was shown in the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer, the fourth in the reboot series. Set many years after the previous instalment, we see that the apes have taken over Earth, and driven humanity to the brink of extinction.

Also shown at the Superbowl were trailers for The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, Monkey Man starring Dev Patel, and Twisters starring  Daisy Edgar Jones and Glen Powell.
