Howay the lasses....
The Summer of 2025 saw an incredible time for Women’s Sports, especially the English teams. The Lionesses brought home the win from the Euros and the Red Roses won the Women’s Rugby World Cup on home soil.

A lot of people have been asking what's next for Women’s sports and the answer is that there will be more growth and girls trying new sports. I believe this is what is also next for women’s sport on campus.

A lot more girls have been giving a new sport a go for the first time

From first hand experience when I came to university, I knew I wanted to try a sport for the first time and the sport I wanted to try was Women’s rugby. It has been a sport I never had the opportunity to try but I've always wanted to give it a go since I was a young girl. Though I might not be able to go to every training session due to work or other commitments, I am so glad that I had the opportunity and did try rugby. From how much fun I find it, the friends that I have made, and it being a new challenge, I can say that I love rugby.

I've seen this with many other women on campus as well. A lot more girls that I know have been giving a new sport a go for the first time or finding a community to carry on their favourite sport from childhood. Even if this competitively or socially, the growth in women’s sports on campus have given them this opportunity.

We can only hope that Women's sports will continue to grow and get the recognition it truly deserves

Plus, as the English Women’s sports teams saw record breaking viewers, on campus, there has been more talk about people coming to watch and support women’s sports. This can be seen through more girls joining different sports and bringing more friends who might not have come otherwise - hopefully this is a trend that continues to grow!

Therefore, what’s next for women’s sports on campus is growth in women taking up new and old sports and more spectators coming out to support them. We can only hope that in the coming years this continues and women’s sports will continue to grow and get the recognition it truly deserves.
