Warning…some spoilers ahead! Another thrilling series of the BBC’s backpacking adventure Race Across the World is rumoured to release this spring. Let’s look back at previous series and what could be in-store for the future of the show!

Race Across the World will be moving into its fifth series in spring 2025. The release date for this year is currently unknown, so look our for trailers on BBC channels! So far contestants have been challenged to travel across countries such as Canada, China and Azerbaijan, to name a few.

Each series, every team is given a set budget which is reflective of the cost of flying the race route. Teams are allowed to work for money and accommodation throughout, however they must never travel by plane at any point in the race.

My personal favourite, series 3, saw five pairs of contestants competing to race across the whole of Canada. Their starting point was the city of Vancouver in British Columbia, with a total budget set to £2,498.13 per person. Every team passed through 7 checkpoints which lay in some of the most picturesque parts of Canada.

They were met with a variety of different climates, landscapes and fascinating cultures on their journey to the final checkpoint. The remaining teams raced to the city of St. John’s in Newfoundland in a bid to win £20,000. Throughout watching this series I felt a desire to go and explore Canada, the program does an amazing job at inspiring people to travel and presents life in many places across the world.

With the next series fast approaching, what could be in-store? The route has not been announced yet, and it is unpredictable where next series will take place. So far we’ve seen the race take place across Europe, South America and Southeast Asia.

There is a high possibility that we could see a Race Across the World in Australia, Africa or the United States. Although, much of the filming depends on politics and laws in certain countries. Some countries have been visited more than once, therefore there is a chance that destinations could be repeated again. However, I’m sure series 5 will bring more adventure-seeking content to our screens this spring!
