Why I stayed in my home city for uni

To leave, or not to leave (home)?

I didn’t move away for university- I considered a big distance and starting completely fresh, but the thing that stopped me was the horror stories I had come across.

Running out of money and being stuck in a city you had no knowledge of, and nobody to help you? A northerner going to a southern uni and being completely out of place and even in some cases, bullied? House hunting in areas you have no idea about? Some of these things ended up happening to other locals I knew who had moved away and some ended up feeling so out of place down south that they dropped out completely.

I love being in a city I know, being near the people I love, and not dealing with southern housing prices

I have ended up being happy I stayed - I do not regret it at all. I love being in a city I know, being near the people I love, and not dealing with southern housing prices. It has also ended up much cheaper for me in the long run. I don't feel like I've missed out as I feel safer and more secure having my uni experience and partying in a place I know, rather than in one I don't.
