Last week, the Actress and Comedian made her return to TV (well The One Show) to promote her new memoir, but it’s barely left a mark.
Back in 2009, Miranda Hart’s self titled sitcom, Miranda, made a huge impression on the comedy world. The series received several BAFTA nominations and won a Royal Television Award- it also made Hart a household name.
A status that has not been long lasting, leaving some questioning- Why?
Well the brutal truth is, Hart has never, for many, really been relevant. The show she wrote, despite having a stellar cast, felt dated, suffocated with 70’s slapstick and gormless gags, I mean how many times can falling of a stool be funny.
So, her return to TV and the media is just not that exciting, with her offering very little during her hey day a people just aren’t expecting her to offer much during her not-so renaissance era.
All she has brought to the table this time around is a memoir about her health struggles, which has landed Hart in hot water with accusations of spreading misinformation around ‘Pseudoscience’ and Chronic Fatigue Conditions hitting the headlines.
For those interested, take a look back at the likes of Victoria Wood’s or Jennifer Saunders’ returns to the spotlight after time away, or Ruth Jones’ or Catherine Tate’s or Ricky Gervais’s. Fans went absolutely wild, social media exploded, more importantly, they were still relevant, timeless comics if you like. Can you really say the same about Hart? I mean has she even got enough on her CV for people to get excited about?
Even loyal fans were more excited about finding out she had a secret husband than they were about any future projects that maybe in the pipeline.
Perhaps it was just a case of right idea, wrong time for Hart, maybe one day in the near future we will all be crying out for a return to the slapstick roots of the 70’s and a bit of nostalgia, which she brings to telly land, but I fear not chums.
Totally agree - will never understand how she made it in the first place tbh - so glad you have seen tge light like I have noticed so many others
