The departure of Kane was seen by the footballing world as the final nail in the coffin for Spurs’ downfall. Coming off of the back of a disappointing 8th placed finish in the premier league and continuing their 15-year trophy-less streak. Whilst also employing a seemingly lower standard of manager in Ange Postecoglou, things looked bleak for the North London outfit. However, against all odds, Tottenham currently lie at the top of the premier league and have yet to be beaten.
Major credit has to be given to the manager Ange Postecoglou, who’s positive style of football alongside his dry and witty sense of humour has captured the imagination of Spurs fans and neutrals. His attacking style of play has been very entertaining and has also brought successful results, which have been few and far between in recent seasons. The fast-flowing football also may not have suited Harry Kane in retrospect. As Kane has adapted to become a slower and more build up focused striker, which opposes the attributes of the current Tottenham striker Heung Min Son who has thrived under Postecoglou’s system.
The move seems to have benefited both parties as Kane now has a real chance of winning the Bundesliga and Champions League, whilst Spurs have the prospects to achieve something special this season under the new manager. Although, there will always be the question of whether the beloved striker could’ve achieved something under Postecoglou.
Kane’s situation at Tottenham was reminiscent of Alan Shearer at Newcastle, who’s ability was way above the standard of the team he played for, but his loyalty kept him there with little in the trophy cabinet to show for it. It seems as though Kane opted out of Shearer’s pathway by choosing Bayern over staying at Spurs. Which suggests that the striker would prefer a bigger guarantee of trophies, rather than staying at Tottenham and becoming the premier league’s all time top goal scorer with a slim chance of winning a trophy.
When Harry Kane looks back on his career, he may wish that he stayed at Spurs just because of his love for the club, but the high chance of having multiple trophies and medals from his time at Bayern will surely soften the blow and affirm to him that he made the right decision to leave.
