Anybody who knows me knows Halloween is my favourite holiday, and I’ve been planning since July. No, that isn’t a joke at all. So, I’ve been pretty up-to-date with all things concerning Halloween thus far, including all of the discourse on potential Halloween costumes and particular trends, as well as the suggestions and predictions circulating on TikTok. With all of this in mind, I’ve come up with my own analysis on everything Halloween this year - what to look out for, what to avoid, and ultimately, how to have the best costume.

Let’s put this simply: avoid Pennywise and the Purge. Both are very much overdone and now belong in the archives.

Need a last minute costume? Grab a corset and go as ballerinas, playboy bunnies, fairies, and pirates. Want something a bit more ‘modest’, but equally sexy? Tommy Shelby and Patrick Bateman are a good shout. Please remember: sexy serial killers only work if they are fictional men. I don’t want to see any Ted Bundys or Jeffrey Dahmers.

Going as a duo? Robin and Steve from Stranger Things, Jack and Alice from Don’t Worry Darling, or Lydia and Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice. Also, literally any duo from any of Tim Burton’s films will suffice - that man owns Halloween.

Thinking of doing a trio? The Powerpuff Girls are always going to be iconic, as long as you have a blonde, brunette, and a ginger. The Chipettes as a trio idea? Spoiler Alert: that’s my costume for this year. Don’t steal it from me, I take this way too seriously. Are a larger group of you are going to a party? The Ghostbusters never get old, either. You can see that in how many remakes exist.

Don’t feel like partying, or drinking at all? All good! Everybody loves a bowl of popcorn and a scary movie, it’ll be just as fun. May I suggest ‘Smile’ if you’re hardcore (like seriously, this movie is terrifying) or Scary Movie if you want something a little more comedic and easy-going. The best part is, you can dress up as characters from the movie that you end up watching!

However you decide to spend your evening, have a spooktacular Halloween!
