Some people start their day with a cup of coffee or even drink a couple to get through the day, but if you’re a hater, you’re not alone! A lot of people find that coffee can induce headaches, the ‘jitters,’ or even a troublesome stomach; some people just hate the bitter taste! If you don’t want to miss out on a café trip with your friends, there is a diverse range of coffee alternatives you can try…

Next time you go to your local café, or even a chain store, why not try a matcha latte? While the taste can take a little getting used to, matcha can also be paired with a range of syrups, and can be drunk hot or cold- just like your regular latte. Made from green tea leaf, this coffee-alternative is packed full of antioxidants which help to boost your energy without causing the dreaded ‘jitters.' It’s also great for reducing blood pressure!

Or how about just a plain old green tea? There are a variety of tea options in most cafés and a pot of tea between friends is cheaper than a coffee anyway! Next time you go for ‘coffee,’ try chai, fruit, or regular morning tea instead.

Alternatively, as we move into the winter months, a hot chocolate may be the best seasonal option. You can’t go wrong with the classic, cosy drink, topped with cream and marshmallows of course.

While coffee can be great for a little energy boost when you're studying, it's not for everyone. There are many alternative drinks that provide the same benefits, and some that are just fun to try!

Newcastle also offers a great range of coffee shops for all your study date needs. Olive & Bean, Cake Stories, Pink Lane, and 1901 are among the many that offer a wide range of coffee alternatives; ask your barista next time for their recommendations! If these alternative options really aren’t for you, you can always get a diet coke!
