With brat summer officially drawing to a close, we sadly say goodbye to the jorts, ballet flats and lace maxi skirts that dominated the season's fashion scene. Instead, we are now welcoming in chunky knitwear, cosy nights in and, of course, the guaranteed depressing Northern weather.

As autumn approaches, it can be easy to fall into the trap of throwing on a pair of joggers and a hoodie and calling it a day (I myself am guilty). However, just because the weather is getting colder doesn't mean that fashion has to be sacrificed.

The essentials for elevating any outfit this autumn are the currently trending knee-high boots. Paired with a mini skirt or bootcut jeans, these shoes have the power to effortlessly take an outfit from day to night and ensure that even the simplest of outfits can still have flare.

Speaking of accessories, another way to make your autumn wardrobe stand out is through the colour red – specifically, cherry red or burgundy. It appears to be the colour of the season! Whether it be in scarves, bags or leather jackets, it’s a crucial way of adding an element of fun to the neutral-toned colour palette that we tend to see in winter clothing.

While a stylish autumnal wardrobe is important, this season is not complete without an essential re-run of Gilmore Girls - the warm, cosy vibes of the show will instantly prepare you for the colder months ahead. But if you prefer watching films rather than a long series, the Harry Potter films make for a perfect movie night, complete with hot chocolate, fuzzy socks and even fuzzier blankets. They’re perfect for ringing in the cosy season, as autumn is a time when ‘magic’ is at its peak - especially as Halloween looms (and an original, jaw-dropping costume is another essential to commemorate the spooky season!).
