Semester one is well underway, and the buzz of the welcome week is cooling off. Don’t be discouraged, I promise there is more to the city than what goes on during freshers. You just have to know where to look, here are a few ideas to get you started:
Whilst it made our first week more than memorable, the events aren’t stopping just because timetables are in full swing
Right at the centre of The Big Welcome was Newcastle University’s Student Union. Whilst it made our first week more than memorable, the events aren’t stopping just because timetables are in full swing. The NUSU website still has weeks of ‘give it a go’ activities, taster sessions and socials available to keep you entertained. With opportunities ranging from board games to ice skating, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
For those who fancy branching out from campus and exploring our city, try some of these hot spots for activities all year round. Cobalt studios, located in Ouseburn, hosts countless live performances, club nights and artistic workshops. Star and Shadow cinema is nearby too; a volunteer ran cinema with the best selection of films from cult classics to niche and indie- theres chances to catch live music and quiz nights here too so keep your eyes peeled online or drop in to pick up a programme.
Finally, just in time for spooky season, here are the best Halloween themed activities. For those not faint of heart, Psycho Path is the North East's biggest scare attraction located just a drive away at Lintz Hall Farm. Visitors can brave the scare maze and horror themed attractions (or just hang by the street food vendors). In addition, the annual Halloween All Nighter is returning to Tyneside cinema- a night jam packed with the best classic scares (and even better B movies) to satisfy your horror cravings.
Newcastle is the place to be for culture and community all year round.
In short, the fun doesn't have to end with fresher's week. Newcastle is the place to be for culture and community all year round.
