Her style changes throughout the seasons; however, in my opinion, her early season looks remain her best. Having a fashion designer mum, Eleanor Waldorf, certainly had an impact on the young Queen B, who reigned supreme during her time at her high school, Constance. Her later looks are bolder and more colourful, yet her preppy and elegant flair is consistent throughout the series.
Of course, we cannot discuss Blair Waldorf without discussing her trademark headband. Blair exudes a regal flair, exempting her from the comparatively lifeless looks of her school cohort. A difficult task on the trendy streets of the Upper East Side. Her iconic headband acts as Blair's crown, symbolising her control over her rivals and social sphere.
Blair masters the ‘preppy’ look in her aesthetic; she elevates the style from simple into a sophisticated and timeless look. She combines the signatures of a preppy look, such as basic colours, plaid, and elegant silhouettes, into a look that is entirely her own. She stands out from the crowd with her addition of vivid colours such as bold greens, reds, and yellows. She is also known for her collection of hosiery; from bold reds to intricately patterned whites, they are a staple in the Waldorf wardrobe, expertly paired with tailored blazers and pleated skirts.
Throughout the seasons, her looks are associated with classic icons such as Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany's, which is Blair's favourite film. As stated by Blair in an iconic quote from season 4:
Blair understands the influence of curating a style. Her fashion reflects her power-playing character traits; and is ultimately Blair's art form. It is her way of controlling others’ perceptions of her.
In essence, Blair Waldorf remains the epitome of a fashion icon. Her style is a statement of enduring power and continues to inspire new generations of fashion enthusiasts.
Until next time,
