With Eurovision on its way, it’s time to start planning where to go and what to see while in Basel, Switzerland. Basel sits in the Northern part of Switzerland on the Rhine River, offering many sights, eats, and activities. Here are some suggestions of what to do on your trip to Basel…

Basel Münster

Explore one of Basel’s most famous landmarks, the Basel Cathedral dating back 1019-1500. Admire the church’s Gothic architecture and stained glass windows as you witness a slice of the city’s history. Admission into the cathedral is free, however, for around £5 you can climb 250 steps to the top of the church’s tower which overlooks the city for beautiful views of Basel. Outside you’ll pass the Münsterplatz, a square where you may see local events and activities.

Fondation Beyeler

On the outskirts of Basel in Riehen, view a stellar collection of modern and contemporary art at the Fondation Beyler. Built in a park surrounded by gorgeous fields, here you’ll see works from Monet, Picasso, and Rousseau. Not only are these famous pieces proudly on display, but the museum also works to preserve and restore them so they can be appreciated for years to come. At this time catch the “Northern Lights” exhibition featuring 74 landscape paintings inspired by this unique phenomenon often displayed in the boreal forest.

Grab a pint together at the bar, then split off to the nine different vendors including meals from Japan, Thailand, Mexico, and more. Guaranteed, lots of options and lots of great eats.

Rhine River and the Border Triangle

Whether you choose to dive in, walk along, or boat down the Rhine River, you must experience this aspect of the city. Let the Rhine drown out your everyday stresses and soothe your soul. Along the river find the Dreilӓndereck, or Border Triangle, where Switzerland, France, and Germany meet. Here you can check off two more countries you’ve been to and boast that you were in three countries in just a few seconds as you walk around the monument.
