The mother of frazzled English women everywhere is back on our screens and so is her iconic wardrobe. In 2025, what has become of Bridget Jones’ skirt?

In preparation for Bridget’s wardrobe in the franchise’s fourth instalment, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, costume designer Molly Emma Rowe revealed in Cosmopolitan that they shopped in charity shops in Hampstead (where Bridget now lives), as well as buying second hand so that Bridget’s wardrobe was more authentic. We also see references to some of Bridget’s most iconic outfits like her miniskirt and sheer top from her skirt saga with Daniel Cleaver in the original film.

There was also a deep dive into the Bridget Jones archives and pieces were reused such as her grey coat being worn by Bridget’s mother at the turkey buffet in the first film. There is evidently a lot of care and consideration put into Bridget’s wardrobe to ensure that she is still herself 20 years on despite her skirts being a tad longer.

Bridget’s wardrobe is very representative of both her personality and stage in life, I appreciate that she isn’t dressed as a typical ‘mother’ character but rather as Bridget Jones with children. Her clothes are more practical as she is looking after two primary school aged children, so comfort and convenience is involved. But Bridget still has her sense for fashion and can show her personality rather than it being an afterthought.

Bridget was, and still remains, a true fashion icon, from silly little dresses to silly little boots and, of course, absolutely enormous panties.

Bridget is every bit the frazzled English woman she has always been, she turns up to the school run in her pyjamas and her hair isn't always styled to perfection. We see her in a lot of of knitwear, messy buns and of course skirts. Bridget’s wardrobe transitions easily from summer to winter and still retains her sense of style which makes her outfits feel very true to her character and makes Bridget feel more real. Her style still holds the nostalgia of the 90s with modern elements without her looking trapped to the trend cycle.
