How to hack Newcastle’s delightfully erratic weather as we move into the winter months. October in Newcastle doesn’t give way to any kind of predictable climate, but one thing’s for sure- we can finally get back to staple cosy jumpers and neutrals!

For me, Autumn is when Pinterest comes to life. Picture the classic turtleneck, cute, pleated skirts and chunky boots, of course with a pumpkin spice latte in hand. But when it comes to uni, I’m putting comfort first, without wanting to entirely compromise style.

Of course, you can’t avoid a classic tracksuit set. Getting up for a 9am, the temptation to keep your PJs on is genuinely irresistible. The next best thing is a good matching jogger and hoodie set to make sure you look stylish and put together whilst being at peak comfort.

Layering is going to be your best friend. Whilst we cling onto the final few weeks of avoiding negative temperatures, I love a good leather jacket to throw over said tracksuit set to level up the outfit. And if I am feeling like making an effort (rarely for uni but not never) I can still wear this jacket, with some baggy jeans and a knit. My personal favourite at the moment is the off-the-shoulder jumper look; it looks so chic yet is still so cosy!

But inevitably the icy mornings won’t hold off for long, so a gilet is the perfect solution for warmth, without overheating on your way up two flights of stairs in the Armstrong building. Zara really has our backs with their reversible gilet, meaning you can wear it all the time whilst still refreshing your look.

And in the wake of Storm Babet last week, make sure there’s an umbrella in your uni bag at all times just in case!
