Not only has our very own Luther’s secured a coveted spot on CAMRA’s compilation of the very best bars, but it has done so as the very first franchise Wetherspoons to be featured in the Guide - a feat to be proud of.
'The Good Beer Guide' is essentially the handbook to UK pubs for fans of real ale across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. 2026 marks the 53rd edition- after that many instalments, you should feel confident trusting their judgement.

One of the only Wetherspoons ran as a partnership with a Student’s Union, Luther’s bar is a well-deserved choice to join the guide. It’s friendly atmosphere comes from the hard work of its staff, made up from the student population, but that’s not all that confirmed Luther’s place in this edition.
With a menu boasting typical Spoons commodities, as well as rotating features of guest beers, it’s these options that guaranteed our place amongst the UK’s greatest pubs! It’s very likely that we have Newcastle University's own microbrewery ‘Stu Bru’ to thank for that, their beers are frequent features at Luther’s (their Exam Room Tears stout is a must try, if you have the chance).
So, with this fantastic news in mind, why not celebrate the success of our ‘student spoons’ with a pint or two in Luther’s?
