Fall has begun, and with it, a new month full of exciting activities! If you want to fill up your calendar and find moments to relax and escape university stress but don't want this to include having drinks, this is for you.

At first, it might feel like going out to drink is the only way to fill your time as a student, however, there are so many more things you can do. It doesn't matter if you are a sports person, a crafty person, a traveler, or just want a relaxed way of spending your evenings, there is something for everyone!

As the leaves are changing colors, so do the beautiful parks in Newcastle which transform as October begins. Having a stroll around parks such as Jesmond Dene, Heaton Park, or Exhibition Park should definitely be an activity added to your bucket list. You can take some pictures, bring a book with you, have a picnic on a sunny day, or play some sport. And speaking of sports, if it's something you are interested in, there are many organized runs, such as those arranged by the running society which are ideal if you prefer a group setting. This could be a great way to visit some of these parks, but if you prefer running alone, you can always go by yourself and investigate!

If you would rather take part in new activities and meet new people but you haven't joined a society, you can join Give It A Go in their weekly activities. This includes crafting, sports activities, visits to places such as the Dog and Scone cafe and even to National Trust locations such as Cragside that can help you visit more of Newcastle's surroundings. Joining these events can be a great way to spend your October by connecting with new people and trying new things.

Moreover, if you are a movie fan, there is the Northeast International Film Festival that runs from the 20th to the 26th of October, and tickets are completely free for students! Not only do they offer a great selection of screenings but also volunteering opportunities if you want to use up your time to get some extra experience!

make it a day activity and go to the Tynemouth market that runs on Saturdays or the Quayside Market that runs on Sundays.

Finally, if exploring different cultures through food is something you love, Newcastle is filled with varied restaurants such as Wagamama, Chiquito, Café Andaluz and Acropolis. These are just a few examples but there are so many more places you can try. But if going out to eat sounds like too little, you can make it a day activity and go to the Tynemouth market that runs on Saturdays or the Quayside Market that runs on Sundays. Have a walk around these areas, see all the stands, and try some delicious food at the stalls. And while you are at the Quayside market, you can even stop off at the Baltic Centre in Gateshead; it's free to enter and a great place to enjoy some contemporary art.

In short, there are many great activities you can do this October, so have fun, enjoy, and try new things!
