With National Apple Day falling on the 21st October, what better way is there to celebrate it than by making a cocktail or mocktail?

To make this cocktail/mocktail as accessible as possible, I opted to ignore some of the typical apple-themed ingredients, such as calvados, as they can be quite expensive and hard to find. Additionally, by using apple juice for the apple flavouring, this cocktail can be made totally alcohol-free. The result is a light, refreshing cocktail that is deceptively drinkable.

It should be noted I used cloudy apple juice and fresh lime juice for my recipe. Take extra care with the lime, as you may need to adjust to taste.

Apple Day Cocktail:

Ingredients:

1 part vodka (optional)
4 parts apple juice
1 part lime juice
4 parts soda water
Ice cubes
1 apple (to garnish)

Method:

  1. Place some ice into each glass. Pour over the lime juice, apple juice and vodka if using.
  2. Pour over the soda water and stir to mix.
  3. Cut your apple into small wedges, then make a small incision in the centre of each wedge to help it sit on the glass.
  4. Use the incision to sit the apple on the rim of the glass and serve.
