With the festive season fast approaching, so is everybody’s favourite part of it - the Christmas markets. On the 15th November, hundreds of independent traders and food stands will descend on the toon, but which ones can we expect to tantalise our tastebuds?

Starting with dessert, we’ve got 'Crumbling' serving up pots of hot fruit topped with crumble and custard. They are perfect to warm you up while you explore the rest of the markets. 'Sprinkled' are regulars at the Tynemouth markets and serve a huge variety of handmade cupcakes topped with all sorts of goodies and I’m sure they’ll have some fun Christmas themed cakes as well. Having tried them before, I can safely say that they aren’t one to miss. The final sweet treat I’m looking forward to is 'Twisted Cheesecake' who offer wedges of cheesecake dunked in Belgian chocolate and then covered in toppings such as Oreo and drizzled in sauce.

Apart from the usual Yorkshire pudding wraps and loaded fries, there are some more unique stalls at the Christmas market this year. Of course, 'Acropolis' will be there serving up their renowned gyros and Greek street food, and 'Redhead’s Mac 'n' Cheese' will be dishing up their - you guessed it - mac and cheese. 'The Yolker' boasts a range of luxury scotch eggs all named after movies. I’m particularly looking forward to trying 'The Big Lebhaji', an egg wrapped up in crispy onion bhaji instead of sausage meat.

Apart from the usual Yorkshire pudding wraps and loaded fries, there are some more unique stalls at the Christmas market this year.

'Parm-O-Rama' will be on Grainger Street serving up the classic Teesside parmo. If you’ve never had one, or heard of them, a parmo is basically a big fillet of fried chicken topped with bechamel sauce and melted cheese. They offer up a host of different flavours including spicy, salt and pepper, and vegan/veggie options. There will also be Sri Lankan street food from 'Dinithi,' who have a permanent home in Grainger market and a stall at the weekly Quayside markets.

Aside from these places there are so many more independent traders offering warm and delicious dishes to fuel a winter night walking around the markets. Make you get out there and try whatever takes your fancy and show your support to the small businesses of the North East this Christmas.
