Autumn 2023 fashion, in my opinion, can be defined almost entirely by a single pair of sheep skin boots. Whether you are in the Phil Rob library, or the streets of Jesmond, these boots will never be more than two metres away, in a shade varying from chestnut to moss green. Some may be choosing the classic 'ultra-mini', or perhaps experimenting with a platform 'Tasman'. If you had not guessed already, I am talking about the infamous Ugg.
If this cosy boot is being seen on the feet of 50% of Jesmond, with an honourable mention to the ‘Boston’ Birkenstock, then it is very easy to understand why the colour palette of the season is oatmeals, earthy greys, and khakis.
Oatmeal perfectly complements a chestnut Ugg, making it an extremely popular colour in high street shops. For example, the new Rita Ora range in Primark (a surprising collab, but one that has had the effect of my housemates sporadically shouting ‘Rita’ whenever any of us are wearing her pieces) features many oatmeal, khaki and charcoal grey basics. All these pieces can be layered together perfectly, with a pair of Uggs or Birkenstocks, to create a perfect autumn outfit encapsulating the earth toned colour pallet of A/W23.
Of course, an article about what is ‘in’ must nearly always feature a mention of the world's most influential family: the Kardashians. Love them or hate them, what they promote nearly always becomes an ultimate trend of the season. The launch of the 'Kimade' energy drink has caused Kim's Instagram grid to become littered with aesthetic hot pink posts. This pink obsession has trickled down onto the UK high street, with shops featuring a small pop of hot pink amongst their earthy, oatmeal collections.
So, if you want to truly embody autumn colours trends, grab your earthy basics for a casual day on campus, but have your hot pink top ready to wow out on the toon!
