Dom Reed’s work is a titillating mixture of social reflection and jocular irony. His morbid fascination with deviancy is realised by use of paint, ink and printmaking. In a fine art world where the word “Illustration” is met with discontentment, Reed challenges the notion of working as a fine artist by creating elaborate and allegorical drawings. Current projects investigate aspects of British drinking culture and the self-destructive nature of human behaviour. Inspired by comic book artists of the 1960s, Reeds deep interest in nightlife culture, particularly that of the north east has been captivated in stark and powerful images.
