Multiversus is, or should I say was, a multi-platform stage fighter similar to Super Smash Brothers. The game was licensed by Warner Brothers Studios, which allowed for the game to make use of multiple intellectual properties such as the DC Universe, Looney Tunes, Cartoon Network, and a handful of other amazing films. Therefore, Multiversus was permitted to have a stacked roster of playable characters such as Superman, Bugs Bunny, Jake the Dog, Beetlejuice, and of course, Lebron James. This sounds like a dream come true, especially since the game was free.

However, the game came with a lot of flaws. One of them is the fact that people did purchase early access to the game, gaining access to exclusive content, but then the game shut down for a while with no guaranteed cash back. The game eventually resurfaced in 2024 and gained a lot of traction due to the re-release, but people had complaints due to the loss of progress and new forms of currency.

This opposes the strategy of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros...

The game switched to having three forms of in-game currency instead of the original two, plus the currency used to unlock new playable characters were extremely difficult to obtain without purchasing the currency with real money. This angered fans since it would cost so much money to obtain all the playable characters or an insane amount of gameplay to unlock them all. This opposes the strategy of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros, which allows you to play all characters from the get-go.

Some characters seemed to be overpowered, whilst others were simply not powerful enough...

Another common complaint was that the roster was lacking in characters with new characters only being added every few months to a small starting roster. Also, some characters seemed to be overpowered, whilst others were simply not powerful enough, creating an unfair competitive scene. On top of these points, there were issues with online matches since the connectivity was rough and did not allow for a good online experience.

In summary, Multiversuses failed due to just simply not listening to the fans and not pleasing them by prioritising profit over everything else, making gamers lean more towards games that are more reliable and similar such as Super smash bros.
