In my opinion, slow Sunday mornings are one of the best ways to rejuvenate after a week of endlessly staring at your laptop screen. Waking up later, washing your hair, tidying the house, and finally washing your clothes … an unmatched feeling. Get your life back together and feel prepared for the week ahead!
It’s also important to get out of the house - walks are the perfect way to de-stress, but try to get out of the city, even if it’s only small green spaces like Jesmond Dene or Exhibition Park. Whether you prefer to be alone or with your friends, this is the perfect way to disconnect from work and social media. You may even prefer to get out on a run or head straight to the gym; exercise increases serotonin, which is vital for controlling sleep, appetite, and relaxation, so this is a necessity when it comes to feeling unproductive and burnt out.
Explore a new city! The likes of Durham, Edinburgh, and York are only a short train journey away, so it is pretty easy to go somewhere new to break the monotony of assignment season. Find a new restaurant to try, explore the city, or even go out and experience the night life. A new environment should leave you feeling refreshed and ready to get back to the library.
Or, in true student fashion, rejuvenation can also take the form of drowning your sorrows in alcohol. Whether you prefer a few casual drinks at the pub or end your night asleep on the kebab shop floor, it’s certainly one way to forget the stress.
No matter how you like to rejuvenate best, it’s imperative that you take some time to relax and socialise after a week of indulging in the vicious cycle of stress. After all, burnout is exhausting.
