Beaches without the Booze
Newcastle is known for its amazing transport routes, with the nearby beaches of Tynemouth, Whitey Bay and the Shields being just a half-hour metro away. Once the weather warms up, I for one will be taken advantage of this more and more. Grab a swimming costume, towel and run on down with your friends for sunbathing, playing in the icy waves and having a picnic or warming back up with fish and chips from a range of pubs or takeaways in the town centres.
Cosy Coastal Nights
If you are anxious to go out to the sea, then why not wrap up warm, take a blanket and have a cosy night out on the beach with a flask of hot chocolate, a bag of marshmallows to toast around a bonfire and a pack of cards for entertainment whilst listening to the gulls and gentle lapping of the North Sea.
Out in Ouseburn
Love a vintage find, or looking for an arty day out, Ouseburn is my favourite place for special individual finds in small businesses. Walk along to Bibleot Nook along a back road and go for a quick bite to eat at the Seven Stories cafe for a bit of nostalgia, surrounded by your favourite childhood reads, like ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, ‘You Choose’ and ‘Mog the Forgetful Cat’.
Cultural Classics
For someone looking for a cultural wake-up call, go to one of the numerous Art Galleries Newcastle has to offer. A favourite of mine is the Biscuit Factory in Ouseburn, which has an aesthetic café shop with yummy scran as well. Or if more into contemporary collections, look at the Baltic by the Quayside, or to support your fellow peers, look at the Hatton Gallery with a wide array of art pieces made by Newcastle’s very own Fine Art students.
Sporty Sober Socials
Fancy having a fun time, whilst getting fit? Why not try one of Newcastle's fun fitness experiences with some friends? There's indoor climbing at the Valley near Byker or various spots for mini golf or indoor bowling. As well as Newcastle holding great transport links to go and explore nearby Bamburgh for a long seaside walk or Hadrian’s Wall for a historic hike.
...the best memories are made due to the people you are with.
Also, always remember nights out with good company do not need alcohol- the best memories are made due to the people you are with, not the drinks you have had, and every bar and pub will have sober options for those nights you do go out- never feel pressured to drink and have fun!
